Make two bank accounts to keep your money safe.

As India moves towards a cashless economy, here are some good practices to keep your money safe. Slightly long but useful read
_*Accounts*_
*1) Make two bank accounts.*
Primary account and Secondary account
Keep all your money in Primary and never use it for online transactions.
Never use Primary Debit card anywhere.
Use the Secondary account for all the spending and withdrawing money from ATM. Transfer money from Primary account when needed and keep balance under Rs 10,000.
_*Cards*_
*1) Use Credit Card as much as possible*
So that the liability is on banks. Debit cards means your money is gone.
In credit card payments banks can delay or revert the fraudulent payment but not in case of debit card payment. So credit card is safer choice for transactions
If you aren't earning a handsome salary or have bad credit score just put an FD of 25,000 and get a Credit Card against it. Never ever use your Debit Card for online shopping or at POS terminals.
*2) Get a safer chip based card*
A duplicate copy of magnetic cards can be made in minutes, chip based cards cannot be copied easily.
*3) Never let your cards out of your sight*
When paying bills at some restaurant, ask them to bring the POS machine to you or you yourself go to the machine. Also grab that receipt, check, and tear.
*4) Always hide the keypad*
Those devices that you swipe that card have walls to hide your fingers so that no one can see what you're typing, that isn't adequate, cover the top of your hand as well.
Don't punch in the numbers by making a fist and taking the index fingers out. Instead, type like a person playing the piano, i.e: all four fingers resting or hovering over the keypad.
_*ATM*_
*1) Always go and inspect the ATM thoroughly*
It hardly takes 15-20 seconds to ensure there's no skimmer in the slot, no camera of device watching your pin etc. The people behind you can wait.
*2) Always tear up ATM receipts into pieces before you throw into the dustbin*
*3) Never display or show off with the money you just got from ATM*
When the machine gives you cash, count and put that cash inside your wallet or purse while being in the ATM itself, don't do so while coming out of the ATM or outside.
_*Phones and Computers*_
*1) Only install apps from official stores like Google play store or Apple store*
Don't use pirated apps on your phone, it could be infected with adwares and spywares.
*2) Always update your browsers, apps and antivirus definitions on your computer*
*3) Always check for HTTPS in your browser when making online transactions*
*4) Never click on links that arrive in text messages, emails, WhatsApp*
Some of them run scripts and can send all your info to the hacker.
If a friend sends you link to check out something on Flipkart, better go and search that thing yourself instead of clicking the link
*5) Never use any device other than your personal device to access your account*
You'll often find people suggesting you not to use public computer systems to access your accounts, but whenever I see any of my relatives' or sometimes friends' systems, they tend to have some sort of malware or unwanted but suspicious browser extensions installed.
You cannot be sure how technically sound your relatives/friends are in protecting their computers, so best to avoid their devices for banking transactions.
*6) Use two-factor authentication if your bank provides that option*
Make sure your phone is locked and SMS that you get aren't visible on the locked screen. If you do not take care of this part, having a two-factor authentication kind of loses it's purpose, since gaining access to your unlocked phone pretty much gives someone access to your email ID (to reset password) and SMS (for two-factor authentication).
_*Passwords*_
*1) Change your netbanking password, ATM pin regularly (3 months)*
*2) Never reuse banking passwords in other sites*
Always have separate banking passwords for all accounts and make sure they are not even similar.
If you're the kind of person who cannot remember passwords, write down password hints for yourself such that only you can figure out what the password is from that hint. This means you cannot use passwords hints like "son's name + wife's DOB".
*3) Use Keepass password manager if you are tech savvy*
Otherwise write your passwords on a paper and keep it very very safe
_*Others*_
*1) Stop giving out your phone number and email id.*
Do not register your phone numbers at places where it's not needed.
Online offers that look too good to be true like '50 lucky registered winners will get free iPhone 7' actually are too good to be true.
Shopper's stop or Reliance fresh asking you for your phone number during checkout? Don't give it to them! Your number ends up in their spamming database. And if any of these numbers end up in the hands of a company that specializes in scamming, that can land you in trouble.
I've gotten calls from people multiple times claiming they're calling from my bank (they knew my bank name, my phone number and my name, so I would suspect they were who they claimed they were). But then they ask you to verify yourself by telling you your address and other details. Slowly they'll make their way to your debit card number.
*Do not give out such sensitive details to anyone on phone, even if they claim they're from your bank, no matter how genuine they sound.*
*2) Don't share your email id, birth date on social media. If you have FB, then hide them.*
*3) Unlist from TrueCaller* https://www.truecaller.com/unlist

_How exactly does Truecaller help the scammers you ask?_
They get your Phone Number from someplace
They get your Name from TrueCaller
Then they Internet Search your name, Get your info like DOB, PAN
With this information they get duplicate sims from your cellphone provider and Reset your passwords.
*4) Always be safe with money*
There are people inside a bank, one that marks other people taking out money, other, that's outside and puts a game on you.
These guys are pro's, if they've targeted you, then chances are there's a very good reason for it. They see you are weakling and either steal or dacoit, that is what they will do. Rare, but still happens.
A young bodied guy is less likely to get duped, but your mom, aunt, grandma/pa is a bull's eye for them thieves. Accompany them if you can. Money is a strange thing, and people will do anything to have more of it.
This forward may actually save people's life and their hard earned money.:

3. Send money using MMID
4. Send money using Ifsc
5. Show MMID
6. Generate MPIN
7. Generate OTP

Pin

1. Generate Pin
2. Change Pin

Rs 9999 has been debited from your account for a purchase at Mobikwik/Paytm/Freecharge. Transaction number 1236. . . from card 4591**********”

Rajadhani express trains charge for your food when you book tickets. Food is not free.

Rajadhani express trains charge for your food when you book tickets. Food is not free.
So consumers are entitled to know what they are eligible for .The Railways should post in each coach what is the passenger entitlement by way of food menu as well as bed rolls and drinking water. Are they entitled to one bottle of water if train journey time is more than 24 hours?
Toilets are placed in a fashion lacking commonsense. In a coach, at one end toilets are both Indian and other end both are western type. Ideally each end should have one Indian and one western model. Old people find it difficult to move in a running train from one end to other end of coach.
The passengers are being asked for tips not only by the catering staff but also by the person supplying bed rolls. This is like some hotels charging service charges illegally.
Coming to quality of food it is better one order online. Train in house pantry serves morning breakfast Upma without chatni or sambar. How do one eat boiled suji like that.
They are supposed to serve one sweet at lunch and dinner. They give some old packaged sone papdi each time.
The train from Chennai is reaching Nizamuddin at 10.40 am. Are people getting down at Agra not entitled to breakfast? The staff delay serving breakfast intentionally and serve it after train leaves Agra.

Then the simple thing like playing recorded messages like the Delhi Metro is not done perfectly. The message says Namskaar , you are about to reach Nagpur ,when train has already arrived at Nagpur. Synchronizing need to be done otherwise it does nt help passengers.
There are messages played to encourage passengers to maintain cleanliness inside and also on the tracks to be part of Swach Bharat efforts. Excellent. But I found the staff throwing waste collected in a black polythene bag from different coaches on the tracks while train was about to reach Nizamuddin stn.
It is often the case in our country that preachers don't practice - be it a religious guru or policeman or politician or govt agencies.
It is like water tanker supplying water to drought affected people spilling water all along the way from the source to people.
I hope someone checks all these anomalies in the system.

A complaint has been heard against Axis Bank alleging adapting unethical business

A complaint has been heard against Axis Bank alleging adapting unethical business practices by putting only notes of denomination of Rs. 100/- so that consumers swipe the cards as many times possible to draw the cash to meet his requirement. This may be possible as there is a maximum of 5 free ATM transactions in own bank ATMs beyong which payment of Rs. 20/- per transaction is charged. Has any one else faced similar problem? complent regarding replacement of transformer by DHBVN in Kheri Kalan.

To
The Editor,
Navbharat Times

Dear Sir,

I refer to your news report as appeared in NBT Faridabad on 1st May 2016 (scanned copy attached) regarding replacement of transformer by DHBVN in Kheri Kalan.

It is not surprising as DHBVN does not care for the electricity subscribers despite having been mandated by Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission. In the case of instant report, Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission have regulation of addressing the complaint of Distribution Transformer failure within 24 hrs in city and 48 hrs in rural area. In case DHBVN does not meet such tmelines, DHBVN need to pay penalty to the affected consumers at the rate of Rs. 100/- per day subject to a maximum of Rs. 3,000/- and this penalty is payaable automatically that means without any demand. Payment of penalty is the only route to improve Quality of Services of any service provider.

I would request you to kindly bring out the above stated facts in appropriate manner in your newspaper so that people raise their voice against such deficiency in services. Incidentally I am contesting a complaint before CGRF for a claim of Rs. 9,000/- for not adhering to time schedule for correction in bills. I have also brought out an article titled "
Are Electricity Companies in Haryana like DHBVN adapting to unethical business practices?"
on my blog

IF YOUR A.T.M. TRANJECTION FAIL

Fifteen days ago, I tried to withdraw Rs10,000 from an ATM near my place of work, but the machine did not dispense cash. However, I got a message on my mobile phone saying that I have withdrawn Rs10,000 from the ATM. Subsequently, I noticed that the amount had been debited to my account also. I have been complaining to my bank, but the bank is claiming that the transaction was successful and that I have taken the money! How do I go about proving my case?
I would suggest that you complain to the nodal officer of the bank; you can get the e-mail address from the bank itself or from its website. Explain the problem and demand to see the CCTV footage of the ATM on that day and at the time you visited it. It should clearly show you returning without getting your money and that would be good evidence. You can also ask for the transaction recorded in the ‘Electronic Journal Log’ and the ‘Switch Centre Report’. These will again show you whether the cash was really dispensed by the ATM or not and if it has, at what time. In other words, crucial evidence from these sources should nail the bank’s lie. If the nodal officer fails to respond positively to your complaint, you can approach the banking ombudsman for relief.
I must also mention here that according to RBI mandate, banks are supposed to resolve complaints about wrong debits caused by failed ATM transactions and re-credit the amount wrongly debited within seven working days of receiving the complaint. If a bank fails to do so, it will have to pay the consumer compensation at the rate of Rs 100 per day for every day’s delay. And this amount has to be credited to the customer’s account without the customer demanding it.
Can you quote a case similar to mine handled by the ombudsman?
Well, one such complaint handled by the banking ombudsman (and reported in the annual report of the Banking Ombudsman Scheme 2014-2015) gives an insight into how investigations should be conducted in cases such as these.
Here, the complaint was similar to yours. The consumer had tried to withdraw Rs 10,000 from the ATM of a bank. Though he never got the money, his account showed a debit of Rs 10,000. However, the bank argued, like in your case, that the transaction was successful and the machine had released the cash and the consumer had taken it. Eventually, the consumer lodged a complaint with the banking ombudsman.
Documents submitted by both the issuing and the acquiring bank to the ombudsman did show that the disputed ‘transaction was successful’. However, the ombudsman found that the time of the disputed transaction recorded in the ‘Electronic Journal Log’ and the ‘Switch Centre Report’ were different. And even more interesting was the fact that the time of the disputed transaction mentioned in the CCTV footage of the ATM also varied with the EJ log and the SC report.
The CCTV footage also provided another important piece of evidence: At the time of dispensation of cash, there was no one in the ATM room and no one was seen collecting the money from the ATM at that moment.
On probing further, the ombudsman was told by the acquirer bank that the ATM had dispensed the cash one minute, 28 seconds after access. In other words, there was a delay in the ATM releasing the cash. The complainant, believing that the ATM had failed to deliver, had left and the cash was probably collected by someone else.
The ombudsman concluded from these pieces of evidence that there was clearly a delay in dispensation of cash from the machine, which might be due to a technical fault. According to the regulatory guidelines as well as the code of practice drawn up by the Banking Codes and Standards Board of India and adopted by the banks, the customer was not liable for any loss caused by faults in machines, cards or systems used, the ombudsman pointed out. So, the bank should refund the disputed amount to the customer, the ombudsman said.
I would suggest that you visit RBI website and check the annual report of the banking ombudsman to see more such cases decided by the ombudsman.

Maple Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna

Maple Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna

To,
1. Shri Narendra Modi ji
Prime Minister of India
South Block,
New Delhi 110011
2. Shri Devendra Fadnavis
Chief Minister of Maharashtra
Mantralaya Mumbai 400032
3. Shri Girish Bapat
Guardian Minister
Kasba Peth Pune 411030
Subject: Action against Misleading Advertisements by M/s Maple Group and extracting hudge amount from poor people's
Respected Sir,
M/S Maple Group having address city square, near agricultural collage, behind pride hotel, Shivajinagar Pune 411005 have given big advertisements in various news papers including Lokmat on 14 and 15 April 2016 stating that within 5 lakh you will get own flat under Pradhanmantri Awas Yojna and individuals will get special subsidy under this scheme. He has advertised complete pages in almost all leading news papers in maharashtra state and he has announced 11 locations around pune.
They have published forms and collecting Rs 1000 for inspection of documents Rs 145 for service charges. All these charges are non refundable.
They have published photographs of Mr. Narendra Modi Prime minister, Mr Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister and Mr. Girish Bapat, Guardian Minister of Pune
They are collecting this amount through cheque, cash and bank.  The period of booking will be 14 April to 1 May 2016.
At least one lakh people will pay Rs 1145 per head. That means they will collect minimum Rs 11.45 crore.
We came to know from Govt of Maharashtra that they have not given permission for such advertisement for printing pictures of Prime minister,  chief minister and guardian minister.
As per existing acts and laws no private builder or party is liable to inspect the documents for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna. Only govt offices will decide this fact but this builder has given misleading advertisements and extracting money.
He has neither mentioned size of flat nor all the detailes required under Maharashtra Flat Ownership Act 1963. Further he is collecting this money without any permission from State or central govt.
Due to big advertisement and also various articles in all the news papers common and poor man will be looted and further we have got the complaints from various earlier purchasers that M/s Maple and Jalan builders have collected huge amount under Apla Ghar Yojna from poor people's since last 3 to 4 years and have not given possession of the flats.
This builder is misleading the common and poor people's and extracting money from then hence we request you to intervene in this matter and take appropriate legal action against thus builder and ask him to refund all the amounts of poor people's.
Thanking you
Yours faithfully
